Research seminar “Global and local wars on crime and terror: the development and circulation of international, regional and national schemes in Europe and beyond” was arranged and carried out at Science Po Bordeaux

On 6 June 2019 research seminar “Global and local wars on crime and terror: the development and circulation of international, regional and national schemes in Europe and beyond” was arranged and carried out by research team at Science Po Bordeaux jointly with researchers from other relevant research institutions with the aim of preparation for research workshop “(In)security and the dynamics of regionalism in the Euro-Mediterranean and Black Sea regions” to be carried out at Science Po Bordeaux on 28-29 November 2019 under the Jean Monnet Network “PEACE, WAR AND THE WORLD IN EUROPEAN SECURITY CHALLENGES” (POWERS).

It includes 2 sessions “Governing insecurities in Europe” and “Multi-scaled wars on crime and terror” followed by f brainstorming session. The sessions contain the following presentations:

  • ■ Legislating on terrorism in France: how writing law securitizes nationality;
  • ■ The bureaucratisation of terrorism;
  • ■ Making terrorism pay – Chasing ghosts as a business model;
  • ■ Counter-radicalisation and countering violent extremism in the Western Balkans and South Caucasus;
  • ■ Crime Governance from Regional Perspectives: Localising Rationalities of Control and Order.

The organized discussion contributed to development of agenda of the upcoming Research Workshop by the POWERS Network as well as promoted POWERS activities and involvement other scientists into the Networks’ work and exploitation of its results.

Apart from research team of Science Po Bordeaux this targeted scientific event assembles 10 participants from such institutions as École Normale Supérieure, Paris, Vienna Centre for Societal Security and University of Sussex.
